They have been the fall guy running the management contract for the DfT on Thameslink and Southern the past couple of years. Just seen this bit "I had discovered that Transport for London are asking a hell of a lot (as indeed they should) of their next franchise holder, whoever it turns out to be".

As you noted, the DfT under Chris Grayling have blocked TfL so it's DfT now specifying the next franchise in London.

I wouldn't say they're asking much. I've written a couple of posts looking at the consultation from DfT and also Network Rail's adjacent plans. The DfT seem to be badly under-estimating housing growth in Se London (36,000 instead of a figure possibly twice as high) https://fromthemurkydepths.wordpress.com/2017/03/17/have-they-got-it-wrong-a-closer-look-at-government-housing-growth-figures-and-the-next-southeastern-franchise/

In other news, Network Rail plan on their adjacent plans out last week is for no additional trains at all on the Woolwich line up to 2044, and just 4 services lengthened on the Bexleyheath line up to 2024. I'm working on a new post with details of that, plus details on how the DfT stated passenger numbers dropped last year but Southeastern's parent company, GoVia, said it had grown in their own shareholders report in 2016.

There's a fair few other snippets which don't paint a rosy picture for passengers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
